The Mealagh Valley Walks Group are hosting their third annual series of public walks on Sunday the 13th. The walks will start at 11am and there will be a variety of walking options to suit all levels of fitness. The day is a fun family event that is growing in popularity and status each year as more and more people join in to re-discover the joys and camaradie of group walking.
The guided nature walk which threads its way along the river at Mealagh Woods is ideal for families. It is a loop walk of about 3km and will take you through deciduous woodlands and has the option of visiting an ancient wedge tomb along the way.
For the more adventurous, there will be a stiff hike through the woodlands and over Mullagmesha Mountain with breathtaking views of the West Cork Coastline and Kerry mountains.
The starting point for all walks is at the Mealagh Valley Community Hall and they will begin at 11am. Refreshments, soup and sandwhiches will be served in the hall as walkers return.
Events are free but dontations are welcome – all proceeds will go towards the newly refurbished Community Hall.
Directions to the hall – take the Glengariff Road out of Bantry, turn right after the Quickpick shop. Pass Co-Action and take the next turn left. Travel 4.5 miles, or 7km and turn left at the school.

QUICK GUIDE TO WALKS ON OFFER
ROUTE ONE: 3 hour walk over Mullagmesha mountain.
ROUTE TWO: a 2 hour version of the first walk but ending at Coomanore South.
ROUTE THREE: A guided 3km nature walk for families with children.
All walks start at the Mealagh Valley Community Hall where buses will take you to your starting point.
