Crosshaven is about to host the 4th annual Redhead Convention. What initially started out as a joke between two redhead siblings, Joleen and Denis Cronin, has now grown into a festival that is steadily gaining strength each year.
4th Annual Redhead Convention to be held in Crosshaven, Co.Cork
The Festival is a fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society and since its inception, has raised over €7 500 towards the cause. Registration for the event is cheaper online (per individual and per family) and 50% of the proceeds will go to the Irish Cancer Society.
Red hair is the rarest human hair colour with only 0.6% of the worlds population carrying the fiery gene.
This year, the Redhead convention promises to be even bigger and better and is featured on The Gathering calendar of events and over 2000 redheads are expected to descend on the coastal village of Crosshaven, turning it into a sea of auburn, strawberry blonde and fiery titan.
Events include whacky competitions such as who has the most freckle per square inch and the crowning of the new Redhead Kind and Queen to mention just a few.
To celebrate the weekend of genetic gingerness – all red-gistered participants will receive a ‘Certificate of Genuine Foxiness’ and can partake in the worlds first ‘Ginger Discount Scheme’, a goody bag and free entry into the wonderful WW1 Camden Fort Meagher.
The Irish Redhead Convention will also host the movie world premiere of the true life documentary ‘Being Ginger’ by American filmmaker Scott P.Harris. The highly anticipated movie is a comedic look at life of a male ginger, as Scott desperately seeks to find a lady who truly appreciates red haired men.
Also attending the convention this year, is the scientific research team behind IrelandsDNA. These geneticists are currently mapping the British Isles in an attempt to find out more about the red haired gene variants and discover who is the most redheaded nation on earth.
